Friends and neighbors, I know that this waiting is like watching pain dry. We're going to have to wait until a center of circulation forms before the models can make sense of things. The Gulf has thrown us more than one surprise over the years, so I suggest we keep a wary eye on this system.

I would like to see the Forum continue. I wish that we could convince the powers that be how vital this Forum is in disseminating weather and preparedness information. I'm not in favor of a move to social media.

Unless I'm wrong about where the center is, it looks to me that it is unlikely that the NHC's official track for Harvey will verify. It looks like it's slowly moving north east now and it definitely does not look like it is moving south Guessing the circulation is hugging the coast just NE of Matag...

Am I seeing a break in the rainfall south of Galveston upcoming this afternoon?

Experience has taught a lot of us that you don't turn your back on a tropical system until it's well in well onshore and a remnant low.

Given the timimg of a potential landfall and low forecast confidence, do you think NHC will issue a Potential Tropical Cyclone Formation Advisory today?

I remember Humberto's expected landfall constanly changing as it hugged the coast.

So far, light rain and windy in Galveston. Salt marshes filling with rising water from tides.

Rain and wind just blew through Galveston. Heavy for a few minutes, now tapers off.
