Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso
Models are useless now so close to the event. What you all should be watching is the cold air temps in OK that are filtering down into Dallas area. Also the BAJA ULL funneling moisture into TX. Radar trends and temps....soundings from UH will help tomorrow. Time to sit back and watch as it unfolds. ...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued
Just went to lunch and I was reminded of the old wisdom of Harold Taft, and that was 'always remember to look out the window, or better yet, step outside, before issuing a forecast'. Clouds are thickening-up outside and they already have that 'virga' look to them. It does not take much moisture in ...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued
something that might lead credence to the CMC last run is that ULL digging into BAJA is really slinging plenty of moisture up into STX moving across the state. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/comp/ceus/flash-wv.html finally on the winter warnings....its pretty much a done deal so why the wait...geezz...

Re: January: Arctic Front Thursday & Winter Storm Warning
Which amount of ice does more harm to roads/trees/power lines? One tenth of an inch or one half an inch? I'm going to go for a walk outside overnight and watch this is why I'm asking. Jeff said .25 and above is where it gets dicey for power lines...winds will not help much either...my lines are bur...

Re: January: Arctic Front Thursday & Winter Storm Warning
Andrew, what makes you think that. The flow and building of showers out west really show that there should at least be light precip for most of the night into the morning. I think points east will definitely have a better shot. I agree......the setup is looking really good compared to some I have s...

Re: Tropical Storm Isaac: Passing South Of Key West
I will agree with that JG.....lets not forget the EURO sniffed a far west solution for mnay days until it caved to form a consensus....since that time the GFS decided otherwise.....this 0Z package is going to be fun to watch....the 18Z GFDL already into SW LA and very close to the TX/LA border.... o...
