Re: Emergency Preparedness for People with Disabilities

AN FYI: This isn't about weather but there may be a situation in a shelter that may come up: There has been several stories lately about people being thrown out of restaurants who come in with SERVICE DOGS. The managers throw the owner and service dog out, stating that the person "isn't blind....

Re: February: Foggy Mornings/Warm Temps & Changes Late This

Even temps 10-12F colder than normal next week would still be above freezing for IAH, and I don't see anything to indicate air that cold across our area. The Arctic air is heading for the Great Lakes and New England, not us. A piece of it may get temps down near 40 next week. Getting more confident...

Re: Emergency Preparedness for People with Disabilities

THIS IS WHAT THE DISABILITY COMMUNITY FACES IN SNOW: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2011/01/29/needs_of_seniors_disabled_often_ignored_in_storm_cleanup_efforts/ Sobering story. A prime example that greater awareness of the challenges the disabled community faces. Last year,...

Re: Emergency Preparedness for People with Disabilities

While Washington DC is battling the snowmageddon, the city has roled out a new way to keep people warm. As shelters fill up, or not in an area one can get to, they have "warming busses" now. Many on the street do not like to go to shelters and some die, as one did today in Washington, DC I...

Re: February: Slight Warm Up With Fog & Fast Zonal Flow

I think there's a very good chance that Houston has seen its last freeze of the winter. With the developing pattern it will be quite difficult to drive any significant cold air southward out of Canada. Next weekend's (Sunday) cold front may drop temps into the upper 30s at Bush, but there just isn'...

Re: Emergency Preparedness for People with Disabilities

Georgia and Carolinas were hit pretty hard with this historic storm. If you know anyone in Georgia in this area with a disability or anyone that needs help here is some information you can pass along to them - at this point probably via texting. During the last hour, the number of trees, tree limbs ...

Re: February: Slight Warm Up With Fog & Fast Zonal Flow

I can't upload the image from the HGX NWS today but it was an interesting chart. They compared our coldest winters to Hurricane season. Should be a fun summer  Srain posted that image on the previous page of this thread. Hard to imagine that the 2014 hurricane season can be less active than 20...

Re: Emergency Preparedness for People with Disabilities

Thanks you two - since no one ever comments, one has to wonder - thanks. NEW APP coming dealing with STORM SURGES this hurricane season.
