Re: January 2017 - Late Week Cold Front & Rain Chances

College Station better batten down the hatches for this Snowmageddon event. That's exactly 105 miles away from southern Harris County, about 46 miles away from Northeast Harris County. Austin's a good 163 miles away from where I reside and 111 miles from western Harris County. My powers grow stronge...

Re: January 2017 - Late Week Cold Front & Rain Chances

I impress even myself. How did I know, Srain? I would love to be surprised and as one meteorologist for KHOU used to say quite often "A fly in the ointment" would really make my day. It's that fly in the ointment that makes weather interesting to me. You can never truly predict exactly wha...

Re: January 2017 - Late Week Cold Front & Rain Chances

Thanks Srain and Brooks.
I'm sticking with my original prediction of a cold rain/drizzle for most of the Houston area. The Red River is around 300 miles away. I'd really like to be surprised, which makes the weather interesting. Either way you slice it it will be miserable.

Re: January 2017 - Early January/Tracking Arctic Cold

My prophetic abilities tell me that much if not most of us will see miserably cold air and drizzle/rain. To see anything in the frozen category would take a 100 mile trip to our north, maybe further. And I'd just assume it stay that way. Freezing rain is miserable for all concerned. Mark the date of...

Re: January 2017 - Early January/Tracking Arctic Cold

Can you imagine how this shot of air will feel. We're now in the 80's and we're talking high's probably in the 40's, maybe lower, in the latter half of next week. It will shock you to the very core, and as srain would say, sensible weather will become anything but sensible. More like insane. That's ...

Re: January 2017 - Mild start but then what?

Interesting winter so far. Similar to last winter and the one before. Few cold shots followed by weeks of unseasonably warm weather. Now, the winter of 2013-2014 was cold in my books.

Re: December 2016- Warming Trend/Christmas Outlook

Wow, all the talk of winter's revenge, albeit this past weekend and a few days after were cold, has now ended. We're now talking the possibility of colder air the middle of next week. BTW, I'm opening a psychic hotline soon seeing my prophetic ways in predicting flip flop weather for Christmas...

Hate to toot my own horn, well not really, but ole David Paul's calling for T-shirt weather on Christmas day. The big warm up.

Re: December 2016- Tracking Arctic Air/Christmas Outlook

I see the San Antonio area has a little moisture around, of course white on the radar in this cold. Probably Virga snow.

Just thinking the same thought. From all I'm seeing it looks to blow through Houston/Metro by 9 ish if that late.

Re: December 2016- Tracking Arctic Air/Christmas Outlook

Hmmm, I'm pretty interested in the Christmas front with possible wintry precip breaking out with it? Could we see a sleet pellet or two on Christmas? :) redneck, stop that. Now don't get all excited about those sorts of things. My prediction based on experience and a cynical outlook; by the time it...

Don't hold your breath for that.
More likely to get freezing drizzle/rain around here if there's moisture with temps at freezing.

Re: December 2016- Tracking Arctic Air/Christmas Outlook

Watched one forecast last night that had us with highs in the mid 40's for Christmas eve and day, cloudy skies. That will be perfect weather for Christmas in my books. Hey, Mr. Heat Miser: KHOU doesn't do 10 day forecasts because they're unreliable. Are you cheating on us?? ;) Sure, I look at many ...

Chilly and wet; at least it will feel more like Christmas around these parts. Throw in a nice nighttime thunderstorm and all will be well.

Re: December 2016- Progressive Pattern/Christmas Outlook

I'm not getting excited about the possibility of our northern areas (probably a good 80 miles to my north) getting a few if any ice pellets. Let's talk about a good 2 to 3 inches of snow, maybe more, and a chance it will stay on the ground more than a day, then I'll get a tad interested. Been burned...

Re: December 2016- Progressive Pattern/Christmas Outlook

Now we're talking possibly the end of the year or the beginning of next for the possibility of a frosty blast? Statistically speaking there's no need for a model to show us or hint around that we could have that late December, January or February. What happened to this mighty blast for later ...
