Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso
It's 52 degrees here in NW Harris County...all that moisture is going to waste unfortunately.... Tim Heller's forecast looks spot on with little to no frozen precip for us. Temps seem to be too warm for Houston....I doubt we'll see 29 degrees. It's almost 8pm and we're stuck in the 50s. BTW David Pa...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso
What is up with SETX? Cold temps filtering in faster to our West AND East. IAH reporting 61, Mean while San Antonio airport to the west sits at 50 and and New Iberia about 30 South of Lafayette, LA is at 51, Lafayette is at 50. Seriously.. I am wondering if we will get any frozen precip out of this...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso
I may not have a met degree and such...but I do tons of reading from multiple sources and I understand the very basics and can follow pretty well....and the general trend is there..
Tim Heller is gonna nail this forecast. I expect other mets to jump on this train in their 10pm weather reports.

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso
My initial observations looking out across TX and OK today are that the airmass is not as cold as the models had been predicting a few days ago. This is why the models have trended a little warmer with temps in the past few runs. I'm not too hopeful of seeing any snow in central Houston tomorrow. C...

It's 57 in my area...I thought we were supposed to be in the upper 40s by now? The front is coming in warmer than expected.

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued
The trends today have been warmer and drier...and we're so close to the event. I don't see why we should go back to older model runs. There seems to be a trend now...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued
I'm gonna have to agree with the warmer look of the GFS. When I woke up this morning it was 50 degrees with the front just beginning to roll in. We have had gusty north winds for a couple hours up here now in Central Montgomery County and the temp has been holding at 55 degrees. I noticed this as w...

Brooks garner latched on to the idea first I think 2 day ago that this would be ice.

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued
Tim Heller is right. I think he's one of the best mets in Houston. Plus Brooks Garner of KHOU said this days ago that Houston will see mostly ice. This is why you don't go on TV forecasting 3-6 inches of snow and saying kids will have a snow day tomorrow Kudos to the Mets that kept a conservative fo...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued
I had a feeling that warm nose would mess it all up. I guess Brooks Garner was the only met on TV that got it right....he said it would be mostly ice for houston and it is.

I don't like that it's showing a more sleet situation..with a stubborn warm nose.cperk wrote:TxJohn wrote:I don't like that NAM run....hopefully the GFS is better....

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued
I know I've asked this question already but I'll ask again just to see what the trends are....is there gonna be a strong warm nose that will lead to a more freezing rain/sleet/ice situation and less snow? Brooks Garner (KHOU met) thinks Houston will see a mix of sleet/snow/and ice...mostly ice. Hmmm...
