Re: January 2019 - Active Progressive WX Pattern Ahead

Thankfully as a SE Texas native I remember 1973 like it was yesterday. The late 50's and early 60's offered a couple of memorable "snow events' here in the Houston area as well. So proud of Blake! And to think he cut his 'weather teeth' right here on our Forum... Thanks, Steve! Yup, got m...

WE DO SEEM TO GET A GLANCING BLOW BUT THE BLOW IS LEGIT! The Euro only gets us to 32 degrees in that time frame. The GFS leaves our entire area ...

Re: January 2019 - Active Progressive WX Pattern Ahead

I think the bigger story is what may happen with the polar vortex dropping into the midwest a week from today. The 00z Euro showing scary low temps -- coldest in years for Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin? This would be seriously dangerous stuff that just boggles my mind. #BarneyOnTheAttack 00z euro mi...

Re: January 2019 - Rain/Storms & Strong Cold Front

Anybody see the 12z Euro for next week? Wow. Severe cold right through the center of the US.

Re: January 2019 - Late Week Artic Front/Hard Freeze Possible

Sorry, folks. No Arctic air coming down this weekend. There isn't any Arctic air in western Canada (source region for our fronts). It's only modified Canadian air from the Northern Plains. Perhaps a light freeze (32F) Sunday/Monday. It's a cold front, which we see quite often in winter, but that's ...

Re: January 2019 - Late Week Artic Front/Hard Freeze Possible

Live by the models, die by the models. Standby for the emotional swings of “omg it’s going to snow” to “it’s not gonna snow.” I’m guilty too.

Re: January 2019 - Late Week Artic Front/Hard Freeze Possible

Also, anecdotally speaking, I think the arctic front plows through here earlier than the models are showing. I’ve seen it too many times, especially a front being powered by a 1045+ high. After careful consideration and taking that into account, Brooks and I decided to undercut guidance significantl...

Re: January 2019 - Cooler Weather

18z GFS coming in colder with a stronger high and a further west placement. Also looks to delay the front a bit until Saturday night or Sunday morning. The Chevron Houston Marathon looks very interesting. Difficult forecast.

Re: January 2019 - Cooler Weather

With the GFS showing 3 inches of snow for the Houston area at hour 252, surprised this board isn’t a bit more active... ;) http://www.twisterdata.com/index.php?prog=forecast&model=GFS&grid=3&model_yyyy=2019&model_mm=01&model_dd=13&model_init_hh=12&fhour=252¶meter=SNOWIN&level=SURFACE&unit=none&...

Re: January 2019 - Cooler Weather

I wouldn’t use the ECMWF verbatim. I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that the model is too cool with highs and lows. I do think a pair of freezes is likely next Sunday and Monday mornings but getting into the mid 20s may be tough unless that high settles in right over the top of us. Up until the ...
