Re: February Winter Weather Discussion. Wintry Precip Possible?

It's a bit slower with the cold air, but no big deal. Still a ways away. Like wxman said one time, how can you pick one model over the other? There is so much variability still that one run is just as good as another. I wait with bated breath for the 0z euro and gfs.

Re: February Winter Weather Discussion. Wintry Precip Possible?

I think we're going to have some serious mixing issues when all this starts out--if it even happens. Anytime you get stratoform precipitation, it is indicative of warm air advection. Surface temps are going to play heck with the precip. On the flip side of the coin, the upper levels are forecast to ...

Re: More Cold Air On The Way In Mid/Late February For TX/OK/LA?

wxdata wrote:0z GFS keeping any snowfall well north of here.
Dan, that image is so pixilated. There is noway in heck you can tell where the snow line is or isn't. Again, I think it's too far out to call the shots at this point. I'm satisfied that the chance of wintry weather is real and not a 384 hour dream.

Re: More Cold Air On The Way In Mid/Late February For TX/OK/LA?

Dallas Thoughts: EYOND MONDAY...GLOBAL GUIDANCE DIVERGES MORE SIGNIFICANTLY. THE FAVORED ECMWF PINCHES OFF A PIECE OF EASTERN PACIFIC ENERGY...MERGES IT WITH THE TROF OVER THE WESTERN US AND CLOSES OFF AN UPPER LOW. THIS IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE THERE IS SOME FAIRLY COLD AIR ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FEATU...

Man, I just got home from work and the sleet was really coming down on I-45 at Woodlands Parkway! When I walked out of work, you could see the sleet bouncing all over the car and hear it hitting the trees and bushes. Very cool

Re: More cold air on the way?

Looks like more interesting wintry weather may be ahead for TX later next week. AO, NOA, (severely negative) and a rather robust +PNA ridge is suggested by the OP as more strongly suggested via the ensembles. A very strong late winter Arctic front will pass through TX Sunday/Monday ushering some ve...

Re: Cold weather has arrived with cold rain on the way...

The following discussion pertains to IAH - northern Houston. NAM has been trending warmer than the GFS in many areas, but apparently not in Houston. 18Z not all in, but 12Z forecasts quite warm air between the surface and 10,000ft (low 40s) until around 3am Friday. Beyond that, it shows significant...
