Re: December 2016- Progressive Pattern/Christmas Outlook

The problem with forecasting a snow storm in Houston is figuring out the position and track of the coastal low. IF a low forms a little further southeast and is a little stronger than forecast it can pull in more cold air, but also pull moisture further offshore, stunting the snow chance. A little c...

Re: August 2016: Significant Pattern Change/Rain Chances Ret

If I remember correctly, in the spring of '83, Houston had a rash outbreak of tornadoes. I grew up and lived in Oak Forest. There were trees down everywhere. Pine trees had twisted tops and when I drive back thru the neighborhood I can still see a few of them alive today, having survived in a mangl...

Re: August 2016: Significant Pattern Change/Rain Chances Ret

Yep, the GFS has been and continues to be the most aggressive with rain totals for our area this weekend. Regardless of the exact track of the low, PWats will be exceedingly high in SE Texas over the next few days and ANY storm that develops in that atmosphere has the potential to dump 2"+ rain...

Re: March 2016 - Enhanced Severe WX Threat. Heavy Rain Possi

Good morning all! Keeping an eye on the radar with you overnight. Noticing rainfall rates in the strongest cells at about 1.2" per hour. Not enough to cause major flooding yet, but concerning. Bayous responding but most well within banks for now. Going to be plenty of high water spots and pondi...

Re: March 2016 - Enhanced Severe WX Threat. Heavy Rain Possi

Surface winds backing to the NE helping to fire off a line of storms to our north... shows how very unstable the atmosphere is becoming in central and east Texas tonight. Looks like some weak convection trying to get going in Waller and Washington counties now. Watching it, and growing concerned tha...

Re: December: Moderating Temps/Rain Late Week

That's the idea Stormrider, just an early heads up on what COULD be coming so people can plan ahead. If we don't get pipe busting cold, I'll be very happy.

Re: OCTOBER: Cooler/Shower Chances. 'Blue Norther' Late Mont

Great article srain... the 'blue black' cloud is exactly how my grandfather described it. He also told me about several close calls with tornadoes as a boy on the farm in Nebraska. Thanks for posting this and Cheers!

Re: OCTOBER: Cooler/Shower Chances. 'Blue Norther' Late Mont

I see the GFS and Canadian are suggesting that 'Blue Norther' may blow in just in time for Halloween. Question... my grandfather used to describe a blue norther (he grew up in Nebraska) as the tinted blue dark clouds rolling in with a strong winter storm. I always thought (growing up in Houston of c...

Re: Tropical Storm Andrea: Florida & NE Gulf Threat

I'm always glad when the first storm of the season misses us. However, this is exactly what Lake Travis needs to fill it back up. Hey Brooks, nice call on them upgrading/naming the storm this afternoon. I thought they might hold off.

Re: May: Memorial Day Forecast

Well, that line of storms out west is slowing and weakening as it tries to move east. May not make it here at all but I've not given up just yet. Strong storm moving toward Livingston now. I'm surprised we have not had more scattered storms pop up in the heat this afternoon. I saw some nice cu tower...

Re: May: Showers/Storms Mid Week.

We need and count on at least some rainfall from a tropical system each year to keep us out of drought and to keep lake Travis and the Edwards aquifer charged. Many have seen this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHSnKX0eVNQ It illustrates how little (closer to none) rainfall Texas got from last y...

Re: April - Wet month ahead?

From the looks of that line of storms near San Antonio now, I'd say you have a 50/50 chance of getting some rain in Jackson/Victoria counties later this afternoon. Good luck, I know you farmers need the rain down there.

Re: April - Wet month ahead?

Number of lightning strikes is slowly decreasing but the storms are still holding together. Ft Bend and Brazoria look to get the worst of it (best of the rain!). That being said I'm seeing some new cells trying to fire ahead of the line in Harris and Braz counties now.

Re: February - Cold Canadian Air Outbreak Mid Month?

Our 'Microcast' model agrees. Rain begins in the morning, heavier stuff out west counties... then moves across se Texas taking most of the afternoon and evening. 2"-3" totals likely with this...
