Re: TS Alex. 85 Miles WNW of Campeche. 60 MPH/989 MB
Dr. Neil said he is concerned about how slow the storm is moving and that it's moving more to the north than the west, indicating weak steering currents. Also, the track is widening and that means an uncertainty of the track. He also said it won't take much to shift the storm to the north. Those are...

Re: TS Alex. 85 Miles WNW of Campeche. 60 MPH/989 MB
Would someone mind taking a stab at discussing the potential effects in the Houston area from a strong Cat 2 or weak Cat 3 hurricane making landfall in Corpus? I remember with Ike the hurricane force winds were felt far and wide because of the sheer size of the storm.

Re: TS Alex. 100 Miles WSW of Campeche. 45 MPH/991 MB
I sure hope Ed is right on landfall being far from Houston. Did anyone catch Ch. 13's on-air met a few minutes ago? He said their futurecast is showing a more northerly movement toward the Upper Texas coast. He also intimated that he would not be surprised to see the NHC cone move further north at ...

Re: TS Alex. 100 Miles WSW of Campeche. 45 MPH/991 MB
I just remember IKE and how the NHC had it towards South Texas on Monday - when I began making preps and getting supplies and on Wednesday they changed to Galveston. Two days for most folks to try and get ready. I don't doubt the NHC they are the authority but they aren't perfect. I will continue t...

Re: TD Alex. 55 Miles SSW of Campeche. 35 MPH/999 MB
I was watching TWC a little while ago and did a double-take when their track showed Alex landing ashore with wind speeds of only 25 mph. Then, I read a blog that said that the further north the system goes, the more wind shear and drier air it might encounter, inhibiting opportunities for further i...

Re: TD Alex. 55 Miles SSW of Campeche. 35 MPH/999 MB
Of the models that are hinting at a more westwardly movement in a few days resulting in landfall close to the border, what if anything do they indicate about a post-landfall track? I have heard some concerns expressed about potentially significant flooding from this system in the Houston area, even ...

Re: TS Alex. 15 Miles SE of Belize City. 65 MPH/996 MB
How many more model runs indicating a more north/northwesterly direction before it can be said with a fair amount of confidence that the post-Yucatan landfall will be a U.S. rather than Mexican event?

Perhaps this is what wxman57 was referring to when he said to pay attention to what was following this system?

Re: 93L Central Caribbean. RECON Rescheduled For Thursday PM
Thanks Paul. Of the more reliable models that are forecasting development and US impact, what are they indicating as far as potential strength (wind speed) at landfall? The strongest I see is a minimal hurricane (cat 1) at landfall by the 18z HWRF. It really doesn't mean too much at this point, con...

Re: 93L Central Caribbean. RECON Rescheduled For Thursday PM
If this were to develop, how soon next week could areas along the Gulf Coast could start to experience tropical conditions? Do most models still project an earliest landfall around Tuesday-Wednesday? that is a good bet....probably later if it does in fact develope and the trof is as strong as some ...

Re: March First Storm- In Like A Lion?
Are the models depicting freezing or below freezing surface temperatures for the area during that time? Glad you asked! Not the GFS, that's for sure. I've been following the GFS forecasts for next Monday and they're nowhere near freezing. Temps in the mid 50s when the precip starts and dropping int...

Re: February Weather Discussion. WSW Issued! Snow/Sleet/Rain?
Wxman57, did the precip with this system start, and will thus end, earlier than expected (not for the GFS, but with some of the other pro mets who forecasted more accumulation)? Great job with your forecast on this one! Certainly, the GFS did a good job with temps and with the start/end of precip. ...

Re: February Weather Discussion. WSW Issued! Snow/Sleet/Rain?
What time do yall think that the Low will come pass us and give us another chance of snow? Per haps I may set my alarm. I'm afraid it looks like all the precipitation with the upper low will pass well north of Houston. The last of the significant precip is moving into central Houston now. Just as t...

Man, wxdata. Is your area well lit? I do have the flood lights on which is helping to see the snow.
