Re: May Weather Discussion
Something interesting going on right now around sw Austin. I'm about 5 miles sw of downtown and am hearing steady thunder. However, current radar (9:53am) shows no rain within 15 miles. Storms are heading this way, but nothing here yet. Could this be lightening from the cloud tops of the storms 15 t...

Re: April Weather Discussion. SPC: Slight Risk Friday & Satu
Heading off to sleep, hopefully. Enjoy the fireworks tonight, wxdata.
Had to take one more look at the radar. Waco is about to get blasted, around midnight.

Re: April Weather Discussion. SPC: Slight Risk Friday & Satu
Looks like an MCS is trying to develop out west rather than an actual squall line. If a MCS tries to develop, that will be worse than a squall line. Squall lines are brief, while MCS are prolonged. I have a feeling, we will see some nasty storms. There is a fairly large storm NW of Austin right now...

Re: April Weather Discussion. SPC: Slight Risk Friday & Satu
A storm about 100 miles west of San Antonio was producing 4-inch hail according to radar estimates. Now down to 3-inch. VIL is 64 That's a nasty looking complex of storms forming. http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?zoommode=zoom&num=6&delay=15&rbscale=0.5739130434782609&s...

Re: April Weather Discussion. SPC: Slight Risk Late Week!
Just checked obs DFW, FTW, DTO and MWL. Dry line/trough is advancing, just passed FTW and DTO, although dew points not yet dropping, has yet to pass DFW or DAL. DFW and DAL are socked in. Scattered low clouds about 1000 feet, broken deck 9000, another deck 25,000. Odds of Metroplex Severe are dropp...

Re: Loudest Thunder You Ever Heard
I think that the loudness of thunder is primarily dependent on one's proximity to the lightning strike, and thus the origin of the thunder. Secondarily, ambient/background "noise" would be a factor. With less ambient noise at night, a nearby lightning strike would result in thunder that a...

Re: March 2010- In Like A Lamb, Out Like A Lion?
I'm conflicted. Ready for warmer weather, but not ready to have a summer like we've had in Central Texas over the last 2 years.
There have been 36 record highs in Austin (Camp Mabry) between May-Sept (2008-2009).
