Re: August Weather Discussion
I think the biggest change in temps around here over the past few years has been the very warm overnight lows. We consistently stay higher than our average at night. Definitely. The UHI at IAH has made the current 1971-2000 climate normals virtually useless. Overnight lows have been getting so warm...

check out the t-storm activity over W. Africa with the next wave. One of the bigger ones I've seen this season.

Re: July Weather Discussion
Any of the weather websites show active lightening strikes? I've tried wundground and NOAA's, but can't locate any. thanks There are a few pay sites (Weathertap, AllisonHouse, Accuweather) that offer limited 'live' lightning data (usually a few minutes old.) Those wanting real-time live data, expec...

Would be funny if 98L becomes Bonnie before TD3. 98L certainly looks healthy on sat images.

NHC is going to issue another advisory in 2 hours. Might get one more reading, and possible CAT 3 status, before landfall.

Pressure down to 951, waiting for confirmation of CAT 2 Alex, maybe CAT 3?, with the 6pm NHC advisory.

Alex is one of the more peculiar storms I've followed. Reminds me of the Carly Simon song, "Anticipation."

Re: TS Alex. 215 Miles ESE of La Pesca. 70 MPH/980 MB
Impressive drop in pressure.
When you see that burst of convection on the eastern side of Alex over the last hour or so, this drop is pressure is not surprising.
Alex is winding up to deliver a strong punch. Probably CAT 2 at landfall, but with LOTS of rain.

Re: TS Alex. 270 Miles ESE of La Pesca. 70 MPH/981 MB
1st feeder bands moving through Round Rock and the I-35 corridor. Rain from Kennedy up to Waco. A little thunder, no wind, but a nice heavy tropical downpour. My grass is loving it! Not really 100% associated w/ Alex. There is a washed out front/weak boundary around the Austin area, giving enough l...

Re: TS Alex. 270 Miles ESE of La Pesca. 70 MPH/981 MB
As I posted before, Alex is almost more a weather system, than a tropical storm. It's influence has stretched from the Pacific to the Florida. That's probably one of the reasons it took so long to organize and to strengthen. Look at this sat loop and you'll see wind patterns from Florida to Honduras...

Re: TS Alex. 270 Miles ESE of La Pesca. 70 MPH/981 MB
This storm may set a record for lowest pressure for a tropical storm (prior to becoming a hurricane).
Anyone know that one?
Also, would not be shocked if 4pm update has winds up to 85mph.

Re: TS Alex. 100 Miles WSW of Campeche. 45 MPH/991 MB
I've been impressed with the size of this system. For storm that took a long time to form, and has yet to reach hurricane status, it has an enormous footprint. However, the latest sat images look like it's getting squeezed a bit from the NW.

Re: 93L Central Caribbean
BTW- I would take Wunderground posters with a grain of salt....though I love Jeff Masters some of his peeps are not the sharpest tools in the shed,,,, :D Agree, but there's a few on there that do know what they're talking about. StormW is one. He's usually pretty conservative in his statements and ...

Re: June Weather Discussion
Was quite a lightening show here in central Texas. I saw something I don't think I've seen before. It was a cloud to ground double strike with the bolts about a mile apart (hard to tell for sure) from each other, and nearly parallel to each other. Would have been a great photo.

Re: Tropical Cyclone Phet in Arabian Sea
Prior to Gonu (CAT 5) in 2007, the most powerful cyclones on record in the Arabian Sea were CAT 3. If Phet reaches CAT 5 today, it will be the second. Another item of note, Gonu was only the 2nd TC on record to make landfall in Iran. Previous storm was in 1898. Phet's current projected path could ta...

Re: What does the first half of June look to be?
Current predicted high temp forecast for Austin over the next 7 days:
96 Tues
93 Wed
95 Thur
100 Fri (would be a new record)
99 Sat (would tie the record)
100 Sun (would be a new record)
100 Mon (would be a new record)
Not what I would call a "cool" start to June.
