Re: September Weather Discussion
Where did you find that map wxman? It isn't on the CPC site that I look at. So I'm hopeful that El Nino will return the winter of 2012-2013 and it will be a wet winter then! Better than nothing. Here you go. It's the Indian Ocean Dipole website out of Japan: http://www.jamstec.go.jp/frcgc/research/...

Re: September Weather Discussion.
NWS has already removed the rain chances for Friday and Saturday, and have left 20% chances for Sunday and Monday. I expect for good reason. This pattern is just not predictable more than a day or two out. I've stopped trying. Here is to hoping, this time, we have some actual real chances. I'd prob...

Re: September Weather Discussion.
Obviously, everyone wants the drought to end, but at this point I'll settle just for a rainy day. I just looked back at the last four months for Austin and it was unreal. Sept - no rain Aug - no rain, "Trace" on one day July - Trace on 4 different days, plus 0.01 one day and 0.04 on anothe...

Re: 125th Anniversary Indianola Hurricane
It's amazing that this storm may have changed the course of history for SE Texas. If the hurricane doesn't hit Indianola, then that town may have grown into a major port and might have diverted the eventual economic and population growth that occurred in Houston due to the Ship Channel.

Austin is at 100 for 100. Meaning, our average high for the last 100 days is 100+ degrees.
Austin averages 12 days at or above 100 degrees per year.

Re: Even Hotter Next Week?
Has anyone heard about this? Eric Berger, in his post in the Chronicle today, stated that some models are showing it to be even hotter next week. I cannot find the link, but it is in this morning's Chronicle. I had not heard this. I heard that the High was forecast to move westward Wednesday-Thursd...

I've got a stat for you.
Per my non-official numbers, from April through today (Aug 16th), Austin (Camp Mabry) has tied or broken 49 daily record highs.

Re: 2011 ATL Hurricane Season: Watching The Cape Verde Waves
I don't recall ever seeing four invests lined up the way they are this morning. I'm sure it's happened in the recent past, but can't remember when. Should be a busy & interesting week ahead in the tropics.

Re: August Weather Discussion
Here are few numbers from the Austin heat wave. - haven't seen the official (NWS) notice yet, but today was the 24th straight day with highs at 100 or above. Previous record was 21 days set in 2001. Record could be 39 straight days and counting, but there was one 99 degree day on July 16th that brok...

Heat wave & Hurricane Allen 1980
The sudden demise of TS Don reminded me of Hurricane Allen in 1980. I recall following this storm via the local news in Houston. People were very concerned about potential for damage in Texas, but at the time we were having one the worst heat waves on record in Texas. When Allen made landfall, the i...

Re: Invest 91L: Nearing The Caribbean Islands
I suspect that we'll wake up to Emily in the am, or lunchtime at the latest. System is looking better by the hour tonight and as it nears the islands we'll get data telling us that Emily has arrived.

Re: Invest 91L: Nearing The Caribbean Islands
Another unusual system (after Don). Could end up being very large if it can get its act together. The delay in formation is pushing the models more west. The GOM might get some model noodles heading its way soon, IMO.
