If some of that Austin rain had been about 100 miles NW, it would have put a big dent in the lake levels.
Any thoughts on the developing storms east of Midland/Odessa?

Re: OCTOBER: Warmer & Humidity Returns/Rain Chances Increasi
Interesting battle of forecasts for C. Texas. The one that has the bulk of the rain North and NW of Austin is actually the better one for the drought as it will help fill the lakes.

Re: OCTOBER: Warmer & Humidity Returns/Rain Chances Increasi
I know a lot of people going to ACL Fest in Austin this weekend are curious about the chances & timing of this rain event. Is the tropical system in the Pacific the main variable? Actually it is a combination of the Western trough, increasing Gulf moisture, a potent cold core upper low crossing...

Re: September: Tracking TS Ingrid/Bay Of Campeche
I give up. Throwing in the towel. Bring on the first REAL front!! Maybe, JUST maybe we can squeeze out more rain from fronts than we can from anti-Texas TS Ingrid! 2011 to 2013, 3 straight years of fail. For central, western and northern Texas it feels longer than that since we have benefite...

Re: September: Tropical Depression 10/Bay Of Campeche
Looks like we have TS Ingrid now. NHC will be upgrading by 10am. Center consolidated farther west near 19.3N/95.3W overnight. This reduces the risk (and benefit) to the lower TX coast, as model guidance has shifted southward to near Tampico again. Could even be south of there.   ...

Re: September Drought Thread (first cold front late month?)
The early season forecast of a busy tropical season gave some hope to end the drought. The lack of rain in the forecast, and the blistering heat are not boding well for central Texas. It's a near certainty now that this drought continues until later winter, if not longer. Lake levels are approaching...

Re: August - Warm and Dry Weather Returns To End The Month
Please tell me there's something in the 10 day forecast showing rain? It's getting baaad again in Austin for heat/drought. Makes one almost sympathize with Arizona Salazar. Squat. Not-so-fun fact, since 2008 the AVERAGE high temp for the month of August in Austin is approximately 100.4 degrees. Aus...

Re: August - Doldrums of Summer. Watching The Gulf
The central Texas lakes would also like their share. Travis is at 623ft. The record low from 1951 is 618ft.rnmm wrote:I totally agree with you Ed. I hate the thought of anyone flooding, but the rain would be so beneficial!!

Re: August - Doldrums of Summer
Would like to hear thoughts on the last 6 summers in C. Texas. Since records have been kept (150+ years), the average number of 100 degrees days is 12 per summer. We're on track to average 50 days of 100 degrees or hotter over this 6 year period, 2008-2013. Thankfully, we've had some rain this spri...

Just noticed a slight chance of rain (20%) for next Sunday from the ATX site. What's the trigger for that?

Re: July - Scattered Showers/Storms Increasing. Meandering U
The Updated QPF (Quantitative Precipitation Forecast) for the next 7 days is encouraging. Areas that need the rain in the current drought situation would certainly benefit if this verifies . would be better if the heavy stuff was 100 miles south, closer to the Central Texas lakes. L Travis is about...

Chantal's current struggles make it a little more interesting for GOM.
Are conditions favorable over the weekend for Chantal or her remains if it makes it to Central GOM?

Re: NATL Hurricane Season 2013 Discussions
If nothing changes, with the ridge centered to our Northwest and a weakness to our East, storms will tend to either head West under the ridge into Mexico, or, at best, Deep South Texas, or head for the weakness from about SE Louisiana to Florida, or even the SE Coast. Of course, the weakness/ridge ...

The overnight models are in some what agreement that a ‘cool front’ will drop S into Texas on Thursday. The shorter term meso models are suggesting storms will develop across Central Texas as that boundary sags S into SE Texas. The Storm Prediction Center indicates a possibility that a Slight Risk ...

Sean Casey bags a big one, EF4 or EF5 video
I'm looking forward to seeing this on IMAX. Casey parks his intercept vehicle in the path of a wedge tornado yesterday.
