Jeff, when is the changeover expected to occur in CLL? Still 35 and just rain here. Haven't seen any sleet yet.
It is going to bounce all around all night between ZR/IP/SN

Re: January: Arctic Front Thursday & Winter Storm Warning

It's windy and chilly here in NW Harris County. Temp around 43 degrees....it's been drizzling/light rain since about 12pm. There seems to be a lot of moisture across TX....will there still be enough moisture left when temps reach freezing in Houston? And since it has been drizzling and light rain f...

Re: January: Arctic Front Thursday & Winter Storm Watch

Update from Jeff: Winter Storm Watch issued for much of SE TX from Thursday night into Friday. Ingredients continue to come together to produce a period of winter precipitation across SE TX from Thursday night into midday/early afternoon on Friday. Discussion: Arctic cold front moving down the plai...

Re: January: Arctic Airmass 1/5-7/2014. Hard Freeze Warning!

Current temp trends are matching 12Z NAM and 18Z GFS guidance very closely. For IAH 18Z GFS has 03Z temp of 29 while 12Z NAM 03Z temp of 30. IAH is 30 as of 800pm. GFS shows 21 and NAM 19 overnight for IAH. Looks dead on at CLL also...although the models both show clear skies as I think was mentione...

Re: January: Arctic Airmass 1/5-7/2014. Hard Freeze Warning!

That's a lot of cirrus clouds streaming NE across Texas. Tonight may be overcast, making it not as cold as this morning. Yea I agree. I don't see us completely clearing out. That flow from the pacific remains pretty active. Interesting to note both the GFS and NAM show clear conditions all night bu...

Re: January: Arctic Airmass 1/5-7/2014. Hard Freeze Warning!

Srain, you were talking earlier about the long range forecast models setting up for another cold snap in a couple of weeks. Does it appear to be a similar setup to our current situation. Also, regarding tonight and tomorrow. It does look like moisture drifting in our general direction. Is that actu...

Re: January: Arctic Airmass 1/5-7/2014. Hard Freeze Likely

GFS MOS down to 12 for Tues AM at CXO with NAM is 15. GFS MOS for IAH 19 with NAM 21. Teens looking like a good bet north of I-10 and outside the Beltway.

Re: January: Arctic Airmass 1/5-8/2014. Hard Freeze Likely

12Z GFS has 13 for CXO Tues AM and 21 at IAH. 12Z NAM has 19 for IAH. Could see upper 10's into NW/N Harris County on Tuesday AM from Katy to Cypress to Humble.

Re: December: Rain/Storm Chances This Weekend/Christmas Outl

Still capping shown on the 12Z CRP sounding....UofH launched a 12Z sounding also which looks very suspect as it is saturated up to 300mb and shows a small cap around 700mb. This sounding does not match CRP or LCH really at all think it was likely contaminated. Cap is attempting to erode but things l...

Re: December: Warming Temps/Rain/Storm Chances This Weekend

Not even near that Paul. Also do not appreciate the term: Fun-derstorm! I have seen storms from systems like this generate UNBELIEVABLY powerful lightning and winds. I was nearly killed by an exploding transformer once(!) If SPC is right, wind damage/power outages will be widespread. STAY TUNED! I ...

Re: December: Moderating Temps/Rain Late Week

I am not sure mets are downplaying the event...just being careful especially those on TV. There is a reason why NWS mets rarely speak about events beyond 7 days. For whatever reason writing it is almost like putting it in concrete regardless of the disclaimers and the uncertainty. People hear what t...

Re: December: Moderating Temps/Rain Late Week

BTW, a little respect for the gold taggers. Yes, WxMan57 is quite the Debbie Downer, but when you get right down to it, we usually have very boring weather, and most promises of excitement a week off on the models crumble a couple of days before the event, so he is just doing his job. Glutton for p...

Re: December: Moderating Temps/Rain Late Week

Look at the pattern folks....don't focus so much on the model run to run...but the overall upper level pattern. Ridging along the west coast should raise an eye while ridging into the Arctic Circle or N Russia should have our attention as is being suggested on nearly all of the model guidance. The q...

Re: December: Tracking Arctic Outbreak II. 12/5-12/2013

Freezing line extends from near Wharton to Brenham to NW of Hunstville. Do not expect it to move much sothward tonight. Current Advisory area has things covered well. Freezing drizzle is about the worst type of winter precip as it produces very light accumuations and motorist do not use much caution...

Re: December: Tracking Arctic Outbreak II. 12/6-12/2013

I'm just going to go out on a limb here.... In Wharton County and having a parade in El Campo, any chance to see a lil snow flurry? Also, will rain be an issue between 5-9pm? I asked a day or so ago, but want to hear your thoughts now that we are getting close. Temperatures a few thousand feet abov...
