Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso

U of H sounding indicates a much larger warm nose aloft than models had been predicting, and the airmass over Houston is quite dry aloft. There is only a tiny sub-freezing layer around 950mb-900mb (3000-4000 ft up). Freezing rain will be the main threat across the Houston area. IF we can deplete th...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso

As I mentioned yesterday I was never sold on the snow...and well that brough its own level of dismay. Still think a decent potential for freezing rain and icing. For all the great forecasters on here....please tell me if it will be 33 and raining or 31 and raining tomorrow at noon at a given locatio...

I was on the 200pm WFO con call and they are fairly confident in this event, but not overly confident in accumulation amounts just yet. A lot of time was spent discussing what to do with Tuesday with schools...ect. There is just no easy answer with what we are facing. Jeff I do understand that the ...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued

How long is the snow and sleet suppose to last during the day Tuesday? A cpl hours or what? Looks like a solid 6-8 hours of precip falling. Northern counties from about 600am til mid afternoon and central/southern counties prior to noon til about 9-11pm. Meso models are showing two distict bands of...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued

One thing to keep in mind is we will be colder so little or no wasted QPF waiting on the temp to reach freezing...that alone will bump up the accum. over last week. Still not 100% sold on the snow for Houston southward. Montgomery Co northward looks pretty snowy...1-4 inches likely. I covered all t...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Wintry Michief Early Next W

I am not completely sure we will see anything just yet. The dry air may win out more this time around. If we do end up with enough moisture sleet and snow look more likely than ZR. Still would make a mess of the roads as it falls and melts then re-freezes, but would not be as worried about power.
