Re: November 2024

The rain has been great. Although I don't really see the need for an arctic blast (because vegetation still has to recover from any stress regarding the antecedent dry period).

Re: October 2024

And how many of those arctic outbreaks necessarily focused more on Texas (e.g. 2011, 2021) versus spread more into the SE (e.g. 1989, 1996, and 2018)?

Re: October 2024

If any of you want to see a sad state of affairs (apart from the effects that Milton will have on Florida), then take a look at the comments on the recent post that Space City Weather made to their site. https://spacecityweather.com/houstons-forecast-has-not-changed-much-so-lets-talk-about-weather-c...

I'd say that's more bad luck for Wharton. Areas not too far like Edna, Freeport, etc received more rain that year.

The only similarity so far to 2010-2011 would be the presence of La Nina.

We're in a drier stretch, but I doubt it be that extreme.

Any westward trends would be best. I'm tired of these storms going east.

Re: August 2024

While there has been good storm bands so far this week, I still want more rain. Hence, if the Houston area does not get any rain for these last two August days, then I will abandon all these weather forecasters. With the exception of NWS, all of them suck. Keep hyping rain events that always just go...

Re: August 2024

Geographically and “scenery wise” most of SE Texas is pretty boring. It’s mostly flat and what lakes and rivers we do have around here tend to be muddy and stinky in the summer. I could write a whole page on the brown beaches, brown surf, and air quality. It is what it is I’ve never been to FL. I’v...

The action was in the Sugar Land area — some isolated, but rather good cells. The NWS airport site is listed as .11 inches, but many lucky spots probably got much more (but don't know of any PWS in the area).

Re: August 2024

Latest forecasts for a wetter pattern change starting this weekend into next week are still on track. Hopefully totals are good, so as to make the month more salvageable.

Re: July 2024

There's a reason why people are losing trust in these weather forecasters (even "No Hype" Space City Weather): they keep failing miserably regarding these weather predictions. For example, Space City Weather put out articles about how "Beryl wasn't a concern for Texas." Then the ...

I definitely would like to see what influences the presence/location of the ridge. Which factors influence the positions pertaining to overall better summers (like this one so far), in contrast to bad summers (like the previous two)?

Re: July 2024

Power finally came back for me earlier today. Still plenty of tree debris to take care of in my vicinity. Streets in my residence were flooded as a bayou/waterway was overtopped a bit — thankfully, that all receded by Tuesday. At one point, the only area with any power during the week was an area of...

Re: June 2024

I don't think its a sensor issue. My dewpoint was hovering around 79-80 all afternoon peaking at 80.5 with a temp of 99.5 and feels like 117.4. It felt horrible outside. Even now my station shows a feels like of 107.7 with a 78 dewpoint. Oh no, the dewpoints have absolutely been up there the past f...

Re: June 2024

One thing that has been out of control this year, though, has been the dewpoints. I've been looking at data for the Sugar Land area, the place is consistently seeing dews near/at 80°F, which combines with heat to push heat indexes near/at (or even above) 110°F — even the surrounding Houston sites li...
