Re: August 2022

The rain coverage last week helped alot, especially here in Ft. Bend county. Deeper green grass, trees, etc and other signs of verdance coming in full force, rather than looking like a Rio Grande brush land as earlier in June/first half July.

Re: August 2022

Once again, the highest totals for the Houston viewing area today were in Galveston and surrounding Bay regions. Not sure how much Inner Loop Houston got, but Hobby picked up ~.30 inches of rain.

Perhaps better chances in the weekend for more areas as the trough moves in farther west.

Re: August 2022

So far this summer, Galveston + surrounding areas of the bay have been big winners. In fact, Galveston is the only first order site that has been close to average this summer for rainfall (i.e. even was slightly above its average for July). So far, the radar looks good. Lets see if inner Houston and...

Re: August 2022

The vast bulk of the Eastern US even down the the inland Southeast areas (i.e. like Starksville), or even the Gulf Coast, simply happens to get help from midlatitude streams. Even if not a full blown front, then at least the disturbances/shortwaves/etc that trigger mesocale precip events (i.e. simil...

Re: July 2022

I've never been entirely sure if the rainfall maxes seen out in the SW US/NW Mexico are focused specifically in elevated/mountain areas (as opposed to overspreading the entire area). If so, then Texas donut hole is merely an illusion.

Seems about right — loads of standing water in Sugar Land, Richmond, and other areas of Ft. Bend county.

Re: July 2022

It rains in the same places over and over again. My cousin in Wharton has gotten double what I’ve gotten on the year. I’m damn near convinced that people who need and complain about the lack of rain are the ones who don’t get it and the ones who don’t give 2 cents about rain are the ones who get it...

Woot woot! 2.50” at my house in Beaumont and areas around town saw close to 3” today! I hear my city rejoicing already! I got two huge downpours (second one ongoing) today here in Richmond - Fulshear area (Fort Bend). Don't know how much totals are though, since I don't have a gauge. Solid storms a...

Re: July 2022

DoctorMu i was reading an article, and apparently CS only officially recorded a total of 0.21 inches of rain for July, marking the driest July in CS since 1882 (before CS of course lol) In fact, that 0.21 inch total is actually for both this past June and July (so far): only .01 inches of rain this...

Re: July 2022

Otherwise, I have no good answer regarding the trouble Texas has with seeing summer rainfall. It's as if it happens just for the sake of happening, no rhyme or reason — it's one thing to see a gradual wetter trend as you go east towards the Atlantic Seaboard ... but no, it's literally soaking ample ...

Re: July 2022

Even the desert is getting more rain than Texas!! Pathetic! ] The Southwest needs the rain more than we do. They are in a prolonged drought. Heck, not even Florida has as much modeled qpf on that map as is showing up in those western desert areas. And that is why I'm not as much sold on the "M...

Re: July 2022

And yet, the ridging this week is never actually centered over Texas, nor in other fashion that would dry the state out (i.e. the expanded "Four Corners" pattern that corresponded to those 110°F+ highs in College Station. Instead, this whole week features more of a broad, flat pattern west...

Yes they did. Someday we can be back there full time. Maybe you can too but I know it’s a tough choice between that and the smokies. Hey - when we retire you come visit my beach home and I’ll visit your mountain home! Meanwhile, a dry summer is essentially the norm in mediterranean climates like Sp...

Re: July 2022

Models have backed off on rain chances next week, surprise surprise, rain totals look meager over the next 10 days, this is such a joke lol Actually, looking back, many runs the past few days have been quite dry. Models have backed off on rain chances next week, surprise surprise, rain totals look meager over the next 10 days, this is such a joke lol The totals weren't even much even with the tropical system on the 6z. Very good storm development occurring this weekend so far. Had a heavy downpour in the Fulshear-Richmond area earlier this afternoon — sun came out, and the skies have that deep "tropical" blue w/ cirrus anvil debris.

Re: July 2022

While there is all the talk going about Florida, one thing we should all keep in mind is that this is not your typical Texas summer. It is much drier than average. My grass has tried to die for the third or fourth time this year. Most years, it never gets anywhere close to that dry. This pattern wi...
