Re: August 2023

West to east flow carries more moisture from the Gulf towards the SE than it does to Texas. We get the desert air from west TX and Mexico. See, I'd agree with this on first glance. But then TV mets, general weather texts, etc state that the mid-latitude jetstream (responsible for west-to-east flow)...

Re: August 2023

It doesn't make sense anymore: even factoring in the drought. Especially with the GOMEX supposed moisture source. Can't blame it on Idalia when storms formed just fine today in areas of TX farther inland/west. A lot of people say "drought-begets-drought." But that's clearly an incoherent c...

Re: August 2023

Loads of activity in New Orleans eastward (though the shear bulk is north of Lake Ponchatrain). And somehow, inland Texas can get activity. Meanwhile, everywhere between from SETX here east into Acadiana is totally blank (except the lone complex around Lake Charles). And this is what the NWS office ...

I don't understand it either. The convection is obviouslly happening, as I see big cumulus clouds around the area.

But where are the storms? Any activity will only have a small window between now thru around 8PM or so.

Re: August 2023

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again! If we want rain, our best bet is to get it from the tropics. Which is exactly why I’m rooting for at least a decent tropical wave to get in here. I’d be even fine with a low end cane at this point. Yeah, "midlatitude influence" is what wrecks the...

Yeah, I concur with Cromagnum and cp17: everything is just weird this year.

Moisture source? Gulf of Mexico? So what ingredients are missing that is causing this area to be so devoid of activity compared to those inland (drier) locations.

All the action is in Deep East Texas and adjacent northern Louisiana. Everything south is just radar fluff, cloud cover, or light traces at best.

Re: August 2023

Know what's weird? Despite how much hotter and drier Brownsville, TX is on average compared to SE Texas and Louisiana, the record high down in the RGV locale is only 106°F ... and that record wasn't even in summer (it was in March). But go just inland to McAllen, and you get 111°F ... pretty high .....

Re: August 2023

Definitely good rains mostly for areas north of I-10: though the complex has been trying to extend south (even though the best rains are east into Deep East Texas/Louisiana.

Tomorrow looks like better chances for areas south of I-10.

That's why it's insane. College Station has the expectation of being hot. But the SE Texas Beaumont/Port Arthur hit 111°F! Lafayette in Louisiana hit 110°F!

I'm honestly shocked seeing the readings coming out of parts of Deep Southeast Texas and into Acadiana/Louisiana.

110°F in Lafayette? 109°F in the swamp of New Iberia. 111°F in Orange? Wow.

Even New Orleans managed to smash their record high, now 105°F.

Re: August 2023

The middle Gulf Coast has set a slew of new all-time records today: Mobile, AL now at 106°F, while both Slidell, LA and Gulfport, MS both reached 108°F. The latter two are impressive considering that they are right on the shorelines (of both Lake Pontchatrain and MS Sound, respectively). Hence, tomo...

Re: August 2023

Should we be good stewards of our planet? Abosolutely. Indeed. And to truly do that, we'll definitely have to go against/replace "Mother Nature." That includes wiping out aging, disease, predation, and really all sorts of biological restrictions as we have them currentl. Hence, even if cl...

No. What's arrogant is thinking the USA needs to fall on this sword and somehow control anything. Meanwhile China and India ramp up to more than make up for any feeble attempts we put forward. But he never said that ONLY the USA must take the mantle (though there is some truth in the fact that it's...

IAH peaked at 102°F today. Hobby 100°F. At least from what I see (as there might be some intra-period observations). Far cry from yesterday. I'm not sure regarding the exact weather pattern that made it so hot yesterday: especially since the bulk of the ridge of to our north. Maybe 850mbs, but even ...

Sunday is looking to be another ridiculously hot day, putting the all-time record high of 109°F at Bush in jeopardy. Could be another close one. Sunday definitely will be the hottest day of this Fri-Sun weekend period. However, the forecasted heights are not as strong as what happened yesterday (mo...
