Re: February 2020

So was that the last big hurrah for the "season" or do we have something else a week or two out? Depends. If you'll be in west or north TX, sure, another wintry event or two is possible. For us locally here in SETX, wouldn't hold my breath. PNA does remain negative moving towards neutral by end of ...

Re: February 2020

Good portion of Texas had a nice bout of wintry weather the last couple of days. Looks like one of the higher totals came out near Midland where they picked up just a hair under 8" (7.9" recorded). That makes it their 4th-largest snowstorm on record (10.6" being the largest which was back in 2012). ...

Re: January 2020: Severe Threat Friday/Tracking Cold Air Next Week

Cloud tops are cooling and storm seems to be really intensifying as it nears Houston. Stay alert until this has passed through your area for possible quick spin-ups along the leading edge of the thunderstorms.

Re: January 2020: Starting off the new decade cool and wet

Surprise no one has brought up the potential slight risk of some big storms Friday. After a weak front pushes through late Monday night, gulf moisture will quickly return on Wednesday due to a fast zonal flow shunting the surface high quickly eastward. Cape looks marginal (800 - 1100 J/kg). Storms l...

Re: December 2019: Warming Trend/Weekend Rain/Christmas Outlook

I thought we were supposed to get some decent rain tonight. This is from Jeff’s email on Wednesday: Upper level system moves across the area Saturday morning and this will likely be the best chance for rainfall the area has seen in a while. Forcing along the trough axis should result in widespread ...

Re: December 2019: Warming Trend/Weekend Rain/Christmas Outlook

I'd like to see a healthy soaking rainfall more than anything honestly. Put aside the cold and wintery stuff. Drought is steadily creeping in. Hopefully some can squeeze out a quarter to half an inch Friday evening into Saturday. Higher amounts will likely be just near the coast. Drought.png Climate...

Re: December 2019: Warming Trend/Weekend Rain/Christmas Outlook

Average high this time of the year is only the mid 60's. Christmas morning will wake up to temperatures in the mid 50's warming to about 70 during the afternoon. GFS and Euro are pretty good in agreement with that. I'll take that than the 80+ we've had in past Christmas' during this decade. To top i...

Re: December 2019: Beautiful Weather to Start December

Umm, you boys in Texas need to take a look at the 18Z GFS..... Over 48 hours of ice/sleet in Oklahoma and nearing 3 inches of ice in north Texas, including Dallas? Ha! Let's absolutely hope that doesn't verify. 850mb temps barley go below freezing past OK/TX border. No frozen precipitation down her...

Re: December 2019: Beautiful Weather to Start December

While it's just two days into meteorological winter, and under three weeks till true winter... don't look for any 'winter-like' conditions at least through the middle of the month. Pattern looks rather quiet with a +PNA, -EPO and somewhat of a neutral/- NAO. Those conditions keep the weather here in...
