Re: June 2020

Incredible rainfall rates overnight and this morning in western Harris county and into Fort Bend Co. Nearing 8 inches of rain as a stationary boundary has just parked over the area and low level jet feeding into this band of rain. Flash Flood Watch till 10am with a few Flash Flood Warnings. South Ma...

Re: June 2020

Just seems like any time flooding is advertised and all over social media, it never verifies. Its the pop up unexpected storms that dump 7-10” of flooding rains. Here in Beaumont, Sunday NWS showed 80% heavy storms for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We had more rain on Monday then this wh...

Re: June 2020

Ok. I thought this was supposed to be waaay more eventful than what it was? What happened? IMO, the explosive development out over the Gulf yesterday morning limited moisture influx throughout the day. Dew Point's weren't as high as the day before and actually stabilized and dropped a couple degree...

Re: June 2020

Could certainly get interesting this evening and overnight. NWS HGX has issued a FFW for our area: ...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING... The National Weather Service in League City has issued a * Flash Flood Watch for portions of south central Texas a...

Re: June 2020: Tracking TS Christabol

19 years ago Tropical Storm Allison made landfall. I had just turned 9-years old when Allison came through. I had a passion and love for weather as young as four years old, but I remember Allison was the icing on the cake as far as I knew that meteorology is what I wanted to make a career out of. I...

Re: June 2020: Tracking TD Christabol

I was ready throw in the towel on this one but today's 12z GFS,CMC, and ICON models have shifted decently west as they show a stronger ridge. Well wx57 is standing strong on no tx hit so....and you know how he gets when you go against him The same wx57 that was calling for an upper Texas coast land...

Re: June 2020: Watching The Bay Of Campeche/Invest 93L

As with any developing system, until a low level circulation develops, models will continue to waver. Tomorrow may likely be another wet day, especially south of I-10 and west of 59/69 with PWATS still near 2 inches. A ridge will build in the second half of the week into the weekend and should keep ...

Re: MAY 2020

Something you don't see too often: a severe thunderstorm warning that made me think it was a watch at first. Also inside that large warning are three tornado warned storms within it. Meanwhile Austin has been under the same severe thunderstorm warning for over an hour now. That is also something you...

Re: April 2020

Outflow boundary looks to be racing out ahead of the front which should undercut any tornado threat. Though that will likely kick off new storms out ahead of the main thunderstorm complex and those discreet cells that develop will have the potential for some larger hail.

Re: April 2020

It’s cloudy out there. That will limit the severity of today’s storms I’m sure. Its quite hot and humid. I don't think what little cloud cover we have is going to do much. High cirrus clouds have been moving in from the SW all day, but that shouldn't change things as the atmosphere is pretty unstab...

Re: April 2020

This is it? We are getting nothing but light drizzle since 2pm. Not even enough to pond on roadway and radar shows nothing decent. Someone please break this curse. My poor rain gauge is dirty dusty and has pollen in it still... You probably don't want the curse to be broken out there in Beaumont......

Re: April 2020

I still have hope being in far northwest Cypress but every model busted big time on this one so far. Timing is way off, today was supposed to be storms all afternoon into the evening and here we are with a radar that’s about 10 hours behind the models. Hopefully it comes together and pushes into th...

Re: April 2020

As expected, the Storm Prediction Center has updated their Day 2 outlook. Sure enough, the 'Slight' risk has been expanded further south and east now including Conroe up towards Huntsville. Far northwestern Harris has also been included along with Katy and points west. SPC Day 2.gif SPC Day 2 TX Reg...

Re: February 2020

Tonight very well could be the last area wide freeze until next winter. Outlying areas could dip near freezing again Friday morning, but most should stay in the mid 30s.

Very spring like weather looks to take hold across much of the country as we head into March.

Re: February 2020

So was that the last big hurrah for the "season" or do we have something else a week or two out? Depends. If you'll be in west or north TX, sure, another wintry event or two is possible. For us locally here in SETX, wouldn't hold my breath. PNA does remain negative moving towards neutral ...

Re: February 2020

Good portion of Texas had a nice bout of wintry weather the last couple of days. Looks like one of the higher totals came out near Midland where they picked up just a hair under 8" (7.9" recorded). That makes it their 4th-largest snowstorm on record (10.6" being the largest which was ...

Re: January 2020: Severe Threat Friday/Tracking Cold Air Next Week

Cloud tops are cooling and storm seems to be really intensifying as it nears Houston. Stay alert until this has passed through your area for possible quick spin-ups along the leading edge of the thunderstorms.

Re: January 2020: Starting off the new decade cool and wet

Surprise no one has brought up the potential slight risk of some big storms Friday. After a weak front pushes through late Monday night, gulf moisture will quickly return on Wednesday due to a fast zonal flow shunting the surface high quickly eastward. Cape looks marginal (800 - 1100 J/kg). Storms l...

Re: December 2019: Warming Trend/Weekend Rain/Christmas Outlook

I thought we were supposed to get some decent rain tonight. This is from Jeff’s email on Wednesday: Upper level system moves across the area Saturday morning and this will likely be the best chance for rainfall the area has seen in a while. Forcing along the trough axis should result in widespread ...
