Re: June 2025

DoctorMu at least the heat ridge looms to be moving, rebuilds over the western US, with all the rain we have had the last month or so, they may help to put a damper on extreme heat this summer ...ummmmmm, maybe. Maybe not. I've seen this movie far too often. I'm not seeing this setup near-term. Nex...

Re: April 2025

Yes, but they’re much less frequent in that area of the country. I can tell you that - aside from 2011 and some spotty months in the past several years - south Louisiana (my old stomping grounds) has never even thought of being in a drought. Even when we are begging for rain in the HOU metro area, ...

Re: January 2025

Long-range Euro is hinting at another Arctic air outbreak towards early February. February on average is the coldest month and has featured some of the biggest snow events. I think it's highly unlikely that any record lows are challenged or broken like last night though unless we get another winter ...

Re: January 2025

Probably next year, february is looking pretty warm Maybe the first-half, but forecasting skill level beyond a week goes down tremendously. I wouldn't rule out more cold later although it likely won't be as severe. I suspect we may see a surprise or two later in February - a cold snap, maybe some e...

Re: January 2025

It is all systems go. I have not seen a set up like this in awhile. Also, thank you Captain. I appreciate you explaining the Skew-T data. I am still learning. :) No problem! I am fairly well-versed with skew-t's but if you are interested in learning more, there is actually a guy on YouTube who delv...

Re: January 2025

The column is saturated and waiting. Yes. Everything below the dendritic growth zone (DGZ; yellow line on sounding for reference) is very saturated which means that we will likely see very big flakes when it snows! Or should I say you will all see it because I am here in Starkville hoping for somet...

Re: January 2025

You cannot get a better sounding off of that 18Z GFS. Man oh man. I can try and explain it. When you see the lines almost straight together at the lowest parts of the atmosphere, that is almost a perfect set up for snow. There is no melting whatsoever from the midlevels down. The column is saturate...

This is the latest sounding data from the 18z GFS for Tuesday morning at 9. This is the perfect sounding for snow lovers. No melting layer present at all. Get ready folks. https://i.imgur.com/NfvfC0W.png Even for the coastal counties? Namely brazoria? For Brazoria County, at 9 am the GFS is showing...

Re: January 2025

I'm still not 100% sure where the heaviest corridor of snow will be. It could end up along I-10, or it could be north of Highway 105. Its going to depend on the placement of the Gulf low. Once we get in range of the HRRR and WRF models we will be able to better define where the transition line will...

Re: January 2025

Euro shows temperatures around 9 degrees on Wednesday morning in Houston due to the snowpack. This is a legitimate possibility if 6 inches plus of snow falls and skies clear.

Re: January 2025

captainbarbossa19 yeah if we get several inches of snow on top of sleet and ice, i dont see us making it to freezing on wednesday either, tv mets have highs in the mid 40’s on wednesday, im seriously doubtful of thag Yeah I don't know how mid-40s are going to happen unless we just have sleet, but e...

Re: January 2025

00z Euro caved to the GFS, more of a mix now, still 4-6 inches of snow, but now thats on top of an inch of sleet and .25 of ice, that would be an absolute mess, i guarantee wed be below freeing tuesday and all of wednesday with that So much for 6 to 12 inches of snow. LOL I think all knew that was ...

Re: January 2025

0z ICON shows over 6 inches of snow still in parts of SE/East Texas. Around 8 inches in Louisiana. Potential is very high still.
