Re: January 2025

I think the temps the news stations are displaying are too warm and will slowly come down once Sunday rolls around. The ensembles and models don’t handle cold weather well. We would be 1-2 day out at that time.

Re: January 2025

These models run are going to flip flop. I wouldn’t worry about that at this time. Also they do not handle cold weather pattern well. We are under a hazardous outlook for below normal temperatures all next week. Also we have a high chance of above normal precipitation in the same period. I saw one o...

Re: January 2025

Let’s remember 2021 Winter Storm and freeze and how people died because they lost power and was keeping them selves warm by sitting in a car in a closed garage, (Carbon Monoxide poisoning death) or how people were lighting up their BBQ grill in the garage which cause Carbon Monoxide deaths and fires...

Any winter precipitation that fall likely shuts the city down for at least 2 days with this type cold weather

Re: January 2025

closer view of the 18z GFS snow totals I stay in the HWY 99/Klien area near Hooks Airport and that would be nearly a foot of snow which is crazy. But we have seen extreme weather patterns in Houston from Hurricane Ike, Harvey, Beryl to the 2021 Winter Storm/Extreme Cold, 2008, 2009 snow, with many ...

Re: January 2025

Travis seems all in.. Low confidence cuz it’s still far out and the GFS isn’t really onboard. Travis was on the right side of the Beryl forecast. That Siberian air become so dense that a cross-polar jaunt is just a hop... Travis is posting this on his FB page to get us ready. Also, if the cold fron...

Re: January 2025

I am copying this link from POW Ponder. All I have to say is wow. I don’t know if this would be a repeat of 2021 but it’s so far looking like it.

That is serious cold. I was watch ABC13 Kevin Roth and he mentioned the arctic cold coming around MLK day and that the temps the were displaying may be too warm but they are going to be conservative until we get closer. Probably Thursday

Re: January 2025

We would need the air that is forecasted for the week of the 20th to originate from Siberia/Arctic air and it will need to be in place. Then have the system come in behind it with the cold air still in place then we’re in business. I think we would be looking at Freezing Rain setup which is much mor...

Re: January 2025

Since the late 1800s, for Houston at least. That would be an outlier. It would shut down the city for days. GFS has quite an imagination. lol Big winter storm around the 22nd. That would be unlikely. Storm for this week was showing that as well. We really need a strong Arctic air mass to be in plac...

Re: January 2025

I almost rather it be warmer in our area. Cold with no precipitation but rain is no fun. Normally it is late January or early February for Houston to see any shot of winter precipitation. 2021 was a once in a generation storm but was also deadly.

Re: January 2025

I wouldn’t give up on wintery precipitation yet. Models have us to close. We are still a few day out. It may come down to now casting. Also , we typically do get a real threat until late January early February.
