Re: January 2025

Houston finally gets a big snow, but there are zero hills to sled down...

...well, you could sled down the bayou sides. And then splash in and die of hypothermia.

Re: Hurricane Helene

Everything I can find says the storm surge in the Tampa-St. Pete area maxed out at just 6 to 8 feet. It's long been known that the area could see twice that high a storm surge in the right conditions. So many homes there have floor levels at only 5 to 8 feet above sea level. Sorry, but I can't seem ...

Amen! Watering a lawn is a whole lot cheaper than repairing roof damage.

Still inside the cone. I'd say too close for Comfort but they're out near Kerrville.

Re: 2024 Hurricane Season Discussion

Need 4-5 more weeks of blocking the hurricanes from Houston, until the fronts start making it through. Then it can rain all y'all want. Thanks. This isn’t ur normal pattern, 1st to 2nd of October then u can say that Somewhat, but a Houston strike by a major is very rare after mid-Sept. In part beca...

Re: Hurricane Beryl

I can't see Travis Herzog blowharding the way Lanza did yesterday on Twitter. This kind of stuff (and their too often insertion of politics) is why I've been out on SCW.

And that's the last I will say about them, point made.

Re: Hurricane Beryl

ABC 13 studio lost power about 15 minutes ago and switched to generators. Briefly. Then their broadcast crashed and have gone to the national feed since.

Guess they didn't listen to Travis Herzog on the importance of properly maintaining their backup power system....

7 am update says 980 pressure, 75 mph sustained winds, 100 gusts. Travis Herzog says that is in the NE eyewall approaching Hwy 6 and Missouri City.

Re: Hurricane Beryl

So I just checked the point forecasts along the same latitude as the SW Fwy/Beltway 8 interchange, nearly 20 miles each way from 723 north of Rosenberg to I-45 in South Houston. The highest projected windspeeds were at 288 just south of 610 (68 mph sustained, gusts to 90 mph.) The current track has ...

Re: Hurricane Beryl

While the 12-h forecast point shows a 65-kt hurricane inland over Texas, the peak intensity is expected between now and the 12-h forecast point, and is thus not explicitly shown in this forecast. Hey, thanks for not answering the question so many are asking, "What is the latest estimate of lan...

Re: Hurricane Beryl

If I had to guess: Follow Hwy 60 north through Bay City. Then jump to just east of Hempstead to Navasota on Hwy 6, crossing Hwy 1*5, and then NNE on Hwy 90 to just east of Madisonville and NE from there. Most of the heavier impacts will be east of that track, but there is always wrap around. Thank ...

Re: Hurricane Beryl

It is important to note that the
average NHC track error at 60-72 hours is 80-100 miles

That would be Baffin Bay to the west and Freeport-San Luis Pass to the east. And this one may exceed average error.
