Re: January 2025
I keep hearing that things are moving faster. Will it still be safe to drive in Houston around 6-7 pm?

Re: January 2025
Looks like my area in northern Harris county is forecasted to less than an inch per the NWS. I’m pretty sure we were forecasted for 2-3 inches earlier today.

Wow that seems like a pretty significant shift. That puts my area in northern Harris county at maybe an inch or two.

Re: January 2025
Is it still a realistic expectation that roads are drivable Wednesday afternoon? I’m an “essential worker” so I’ll be stuck at work and I’m hoping to get back home to the family sometime Wednesday. I doubt it. Depends on how close to the coast you are North of Downtown Houston. How long should I pl...

Re: January 2025
Any updates since this morning in regards to what metro Houston sees (ice vs snow) this week?
Also, is it still expected that we should see roads clear up some Wednesday?

Re: January 2025
We may have to start watching thursday as well. some of the guidance is hinting at a 2nd trough moving through the area bringing a chance for light snow from houston southward, just worth watching for now What would the timing of that be on Thursday? Hopefully we wouldn’t be in for another day of l...

Re: January 2025
I’m just going to assume this is an ice storm at this point. I sure was hoping we could avoid this mess, but it is what it is.

Re: January 2025
Also one big important thing to note is that if we have power outages, it will be more of a local issue ( centerpoint) than the main grid ( ercot) because this einter storm wont be impacting the entire state with snow/ ice, this winter storm is confined from central texas to se texas and maybe sout...

Re: January 2025
I really really really hope we avoid ice and the related power outages, especially if things will be a standstill until Thursday/Friday like some are concerned about.

Re: January 2025
I'm pretty ignorant about the weather overall. So I'm assuming this "warm nose" everybody is referencing means this could end being an ice storm vs snow?

Re: January 2025
So more like overnight Monday?
So driving conditions should be ok during the day Monday assuming the forecast holds (I know that things can and likely will change).

Re: 2024 Hurricane Season Discussion
As was discussed during and in the aftermath of Beryl, my biggest issue with SCW is that they use definitive language far too early. I assume it's tied to their goal of providing "hype-free" forecasts. I think you can still provide a hype-free forecast while also making it clear it's far t...

Re: Hurricane Beryl
On the contrary, the one individual (professional met) that stands out with Beryl was Travis Herzog. He preached caution for HOU early on and even as all models/forecasts pointed to N Mex/S Tex. Who knows….maybe he will whiff in the future. All nets have their storm and all Mets also have “their st...

Re: Hurricane Beryl
Look, the Space City Weather guys have always been great. They were great for Harvey and afterwards. They have had some large misses lately, however. Of course, weather prognostication is never clear, nor an exact science. They are so much into "hype-free forecasts," however, that I think...
