Re: October 2024

It’s supposed to be pretty windy up here today. I knew it would be windy up here but It happens more often than I thought it did. The criteria for a wind advisory is also higher here, as it seems they don’t issue them until winds reach 45mph or higher. Even crazier up on the Llano Estacado…. It’s a...

Re: October 2024

Just a random thought for the more knowledgeable. Is some of this much maligned weather a result of pattern buckling, or what have you, due to hurricane Francine? Recall that wonderful first part of September that has since gone down the toilet once Francine came ashore. It's blocking, and not due ...

Re: October 2024

The weather here has some large temp swings. We've been having daily highs in the low to mid 90's during the daytime. But overnight/early morning the temps have been dropping into the upper 50's. Ah the dry air of the lands west of 35 or 281 depending on personal takes of delineation (also much less...

Can confirm wind. Backside rolling through now south of you and still has a solid punch to it.

Re: Hurricane Beryl

Sitting in the dead CoC. Pure calm. That NNE eyewall had a good kick even this far north in the western burbs. Lots of fences and limbs down.

Re: Hurricane Beryl

Sometimes those NOAA fixes are a little off. AF306 will confirm for us. Need to get those tailburners on to make it before the 10 pm advisory. If it's indeed a directional change this early the track will shift by a decent margin relative to how close to landfall we are. So they want to get it righ...

Re: Hurricane Beryl

Sargent to Surfside looks like it. Due north to my untrained eyes. With what y’all are saying about the early turn, perhaps even further east than surfside?

Nice mammatus following that outer band I can see from the western burbs. Clearing out the remainder of the loose items in the back. Going to get rowdy here.

Scott747 - Saw that Josh is in Port Lavaca. Interesting times the next 24 hours. He must have announced it on twitter I'm guessing? I generally have to keep it a 'secret' till the final decision where to set up and he gets in place. Haha. Haha I get that completely. Yes, announced on twitter. Seems...

Re: Hurricane Beryl

What are yalls thoughts on wind strength on the west side of the viewing area with general consensus landfall around, say Sargent?

Wind field size will be an open question as well as how quickly it degrades once inland.

Abilene had a PDS warning for a minute. Pretty bad tornado north of the city for a short while before lifting and no impact to the city or the Air Force base there.

Question for those native to this part of Texas (my stomping grounds are all west…and beyond of I-35) and more knowledgeable. The Mexican desert has always been there (relatively speaking) but it seems as though its influence on capping here has substantially increased over time based on the comment...

Look out Livingston. Tornado Warning Updated warning text indicates spotter-observed tornado history. Clouds are hauling the mail, but not sure how many more discreet cell potential exists. Not going to take much to get something going. Agree on the windbag squall line. Gotta watch for embedded spi...

This. Classic tornadic supercell look. And that CAPE for this time of year, yikes.

Still working on getting a better handle on the actual sounding chart, but is that a bit of a cap I see between 850mb and 700mb?

Re: October 2023

One thing is true about Texas weather. Once it is stuck in a pattern, it is hard to break out. 99°F today. Allegedly normal temperatures in a week. FROPA + EPAC moisture FTW? Could be - but I'll believe it when I see it. This, anecdotally and (to my amateur mind) reality through history, seems to b...
