Re: May 2024
Yes, I anticipate to GoM being open for business this summer. A double-edged sword for sure. Unfortunately, I will put great money on the notion that the Upper TX coast will get walloped this season. I live here (Galveston County), so I’m not thrilled about thinking it or saying it, but I have a re...

Re: May 2024
The 12z GFS even through the end of its run continues to advertise another long duration of wet weather, im also hearing that the death ridge may set up shop more over the SW US and not directly over us for the summer, that may provide us with opportunities for most rain and a steady moisture feed ...

Re: 2024 Hurricane Season Discussion
The latest Euro forecast is predicting 250 ACE points. Sheesh.. Yeah at this point it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find some blaring failure modes for this upcoming hurricane season. But of course, like I mentioned on Storm2K at the beginning of the year, there will be patterns and unforese...

Re: May 2024
We were going to do an autocross event today up near IAH. When I got up to check the Radarange, it was a big ol' 'Nope!' for us. They postponed the start of the event an hour, then cancelled for safety. We put the race car up, and it was starting to sprinkle on us. Came back in and checked the rada...

Re: May 2024
Amazing that the qpf map has still not once pinpointed where the heaviest rains fell for this weeks event and/or has gotten anywhere close the amount that has fallen. Are/did models have/having a hard time with this weeks events? I have yet seen one that said the last 7 days 15-30” would be possibl...

Re: May 2024
It’s, in substantial part, the lower latitude of the Houston metro area. While only a few degrees difference, the lower latitude often precludes the southern reaches of some low pressure systems from the Midwest from reaching as far south as especially the coastal areas. There is a marked difference...

Re: May 2024
Yep models always struggle here when you're dealing with numerous disturbances moving in along the subtropical jet into the state.Kudos to the EURO for showing heavy rainfall amounts over SE Texas several days ago. While the GFS was much drier here. The HRRR seemed pretty accurate for this MCS, also...

Re: May 2024
We had a lot of damage in our neighborhood. Several large trees uprooted. yikes. slam dunk on that last one. How bad did the winds get? There’s a lot of trees down and several snapped trees so I’m gonna estimate gusts to hurricane force, 70-80mph. I didn’t see shingles down or anything like that, b...

My brand new vegetable garden, fruit trees, and landscaping are super happy this week....the only worry is the Texas mountain sage bushes I planted could drown.
