Re: March 2024

Ooof a total of 0.58 here in my rain gauge in Cypress. Other than Friday we just kept ending up on the edge or storms developed after they passed us. Better than nothing.

Re: March 2024

The front just blew through and redefined broken line of showers. For a moment it looked dark and like it was going to pour buckets. Now, Lucy has pulled out the football again. https://radar.weather.gov/ridge/standard/KGRK_loop.gif You sure that was the front? I don't think its pushing through til...

Re: March 2024

I managed to get a surprise .24” yesterday evening all in about 5 minutes. NWS raised Friday’s rain chances to 70%. Hopefully not another Lucy. At least after the next front it will be back to normal for awhile. Looks like a pleasant way to start spring break. I'm already seeing the cap mentioned i...

March has always been one of our drier months. An average or equal +/- precipitation outlook for the month doesn't mean much for summer.

Re: January 2024

Lotsa sleet with some flakes mixed in in Fairfield as well as Katy. We had a very heavy 5 minute band of sleet come through Katy about 20 minutes ago. My Ambient weather station got up to 25 earlier around 8am and has dropped back to 24 or so. I don't think its gonna get to the predicted 34 unless t...

Re: January 2024

31.4 here in Fairfield cypress TX. Hovered around 41 early afternoon but with no sun it stayed in the 39 range most of the afternoon and dropped quick after 6. No precip yet out here.

Re: January 2024

Got a whopping 0.30” yesterday…. Those storms were just moving too quick over my area to drop much. We got .36 from the streamers and front and then another .14 in the evening when the post front rain moved in. Heard some thunder and got a bit of what i think was graupel but didn't do much other th...

Re: January 2024

we arent getting a glancing blow, its coming straight down into the plains and into texas, Cosgrove has mentioned that the ICON and CMC have the best handle on how this is likely going to play out , ABC13 has highs in the upper 40’s which is far too conservative , the blocking pattern is pretty muc...

Re: January 2024

To be fair to Travis and ABC13, this isn't the "Polar Vortex" and that's what he was mostly responding to last week. As far as glancing blow, we are still a week out and if i had to wager money... We live in Houston and its always a safer bet on it being warmer than models show a week out...

Re: January 2024

Quite the opposite lol, with arctic airmasses, the models are almost always too warm, globals were 5-10 degrees too warm with the February 2021 outbreak, id bank on a couple days below freezing in in se texas This far out, we don't know the true depth of the snowpack to the north prior to the front...

Re: January 2024

Only had .50” here. Once again, underperforming and less rain than expected, at least here. I know some places got decent rains but that dry slot killed it for a lot of us. Back to work today, so I’m officially done with cold weather for the season. Bring on spring. You need to have cold air build ...

Re: December 2023

So much for all that "coldest winter ever" nonsense that everyone was talking about late summer and fall. More like warmest, most boring winter ever. Beautiful fall weather all week and then a rainy, sloppy mess all holiday weekend naturally. Was that ever predicted? I only ever saw wette...

What happened to the crazy winds? They were a little brisk earlier at 5-10 but I thought there were going to be 30-50 mph winds after the front blew through?

Dialing in front timing this far out is gonna be pretty tough but most models seem to have it late evening almost into Sunday after midnight before its off the coast.

Re: November 2023

Not surprisingly after all the models were showing north of I10 the majority of heavy rain is south of I10. So far i think we've picked up around .20" in Fairfield/Cypress. I was hoping for a solid inch or so today.

Re: July 2023

Fairfield portion of Cypress got walloped pretty good yesterday. I recorded 1.2" of rain that started about 5:50 and ended about 6:40. The power went out, lots of wind and lightning. Thats twice now since Saturday night that we've been extremely lucky and gotten a small but strong storm pop up ...

Re: March 2023

My question is- how are our water levels in the reservoirs and rivers that satisfy Houston's water needs for the summer.? Are they doing ok? Or do we need a tropical storm- not a hurricane- to fill them up? How is drought monitoring in our area doing? Lakes and reservoirs are all full in and around...

Re: March 2023

Got about a tenth to maybe just under 2 tenths here in Fairfield, not much but enough to leave the cars really dirty with the west Texas dirt mixed in with the rain and pollen. It looked better on radar but i didn't even hear a weak rumble of thunder.
