Re: May 2024
Interesting maps of the derecho. I notice the CAPE and Effective Bulk Shear is tight. Yeah I thought so too because they were in the sweet spot for a derecho event. I should have captured more parameters but I didn’t have time while at work. Also, the high PWS values over the area explains all of t...

Re: May 2024
Well that was a wild ride here in timbergrove, glad to finally getting power back but understandable that it’s been taking them so long. I love a good strong (but well behaved) thunderstorm, but man that got dicey in a hurry. Sounded like a freight train for a good 10 minutes. Here’s to hoping that...

Re: May 2024
As far as rainfall depiction, i wouldn't trust the models in this range,as they have had a habit this season of overdoing the intensity of the Mexican ridge.(Especially the GFS) i feel chances are that several of the disturbances(storm complexes to be specific) that the models show moving in from t...

Re: May 2024
NWS has added a 20% chance of rain for CLL on Thursday, but besides for that a hot but mercifully boring week.

Re: May 2024
Yeah, the active pattern later this week is Hwy 79 (Hearne to Buffalo) and north. We *might* see a brief shower in CLL...no one south of Hwy 1*5 should see rain. Local KBTX Weather has a 20% chance on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. NWS didn't even bother. I think we could see this scenario a lot...

Re: May 2024
I had not checked until this afternoon, but we had gusts of 62 mph during yesterday's storm. I had to clean a little debris in the backyard and found a drainspout next to the fence.
Unfortunately, the supercell was just warming up.

Re: May 2024
The downdrafts from last night. If I could understand that, I’d be a rich man. Unfortunately, that’s well beyond my brain. W = wind (downdraft) P = pressure It says that the greater the downdraft, then the greater the pressure at the ground level. The air can't go anywhere because of the ground, an...

Re: May 2024
download copy 34.jpg Glad that most folks are ok and our Weather Community was active during the event. I just saw the the NWS and the SPC have officially declared yesterday's event as a Derecho. That was exactly what I was thinking as I watched radar and satalite imagery yesterday afternoon and ev...

Re: May 2024
Looks like it's ride or die in Houston with Hurricane season. I turned town the job offer in NC. The VP and I just couldn't come to terms, and he got upset that I was actually trying to negotiate after he made the initial offer. Said "it's late in the game to negotiate". That was a big tu...

Re: May 2024
The downdrafts from last night. If I could understand that, I’d be a rich man. Unfortunately, that’s well beyond my brain. It was a snowplow outflow boundary from a rapidly moving intense supercell. What was the height? - it had to be >50,000 ft. It was like night over College Station as the cell p...

Re: May 2024
You know normally i would complain about the heat, but i would be very thankful if that heat ridge would expand northward even just for a week, we need a good quiet and dry stretch, prayers up for those effected by these storms, texas needs a break If power can be restored quickly for most who lost...

Re: May 2024
Equivalent of a CAT 2-3 eyewall heading into Houston. Radar indicated winds 120 mph gusts. It really was like being in a hurricane eyewall. I don’t usually get scared of the weather but I had to go into an interior room because it was getting legitimately scary. Unbelievable. As I wrote earlier, it...

591K without power in Harris Co. alone.
https://poweroutage.us/area/state/texas
We got lucky up in CLL with lots of rain only. The two supercells that came through produced the darkest skies I've ever seen caused by any T-storm.
