Re: February 2016: Weekend Warming Trend. Cool Next Week
Frosty cold this morning with a low of 33F. I don't like the thought of Texas wildfires. 26°F in Conroe and at freezing IMBY. Bizarre to see trend toward a wildfire risk during a strong El Nino winter and series of deluges during Oct-Dec. I've never been a huge fan about analogs in complex systems,...

Re: February 2016: Strong Cold Front. Glancing Cold Next Wee
On our way to a light freeze around College Station down to Navasota and Conroe tonight and tomorrow. High and dry for the foreseeable and cool to seasonable. Could be worse, but kinda zzzzzzzzzzzzz. We have some desiccation, but nothing's thinking about blooming up here yet. Gardenias and azaleas (...

Re: February 2016: Strong Cold Front. Wet/Chilly Weekend?
70°F, sunshine, and a DP of 24°/18% RH in CLL Could not be a better day. Bottle this for the summer! Cool and dry for the remainder of the week with a slight chance of rain Friday night as the Southern Jet twerks with the polar jet. Light freezes possible the next 2 nights in CLL to NW Harris Co and...

Re: February 2016:Tracking Early Month Plains Winter Storm
Promises. Promises.
Drier and warmer have been the norm. Although Jan was slightly cooler than average in CLL, not much wintry excitement.
Bastardi was right about the East Coast Blizznado...we'll see if he's right on the cold...fingers crossed for disturbances sliding across with good timing.

Re: February 2016:Tracking Early Month Plains Winter Storm
The 12Z guidance continues to advertise a powerful Southern Rockies/Plains storm system early to mid next week. It's looking like a good possibility of much colder air filtering down from Canada arriving Tuesday with temperatures for morning lows in the upper 20's/low 30's likely Thursday and Frida...

Re: January 2016: Mardi Gras WX Outlook
Upper 20s last night near CLL. May need a hard freeze to slow the zika virus spread...but we have a wind switch and warm=up for the remainder of the week. A Chamber of Commerce afternoon though in the Brazos Valley under brilliant sunshine. The surface high slides east with mild weather before a str...

Re: February 2016 Will Winter Arrive?
It would be nice for one of these far off scenarios to finally break our way.

Re: February 2016 Will Winter Arrive?
The overnight ensemble guidance is indicating a rather potent Winter Storm developing around February 1st across the Desert SW/Southern/Central Rockies with a rather vigorous Western trough replacing the zonal split flow that we will experience later this week, Leeside cyclogenesis or a potent surf...

Re: January 2016: Upper Trough/Monday-Tuesday Cold Front
Conroe came ion at 29° for the low. We had frost, and at the edge of town are a couple of degrees cooler than the airport. Coolish last 3 weeks but not cold by last winter's standards. No hard freezes yet - I like a few to keep the insects down. Surprisingly dryish in the new year up here...but supe...

Re: January 2016: Rain/Storm Chances Mid Week/Looking Ahead
Another frosty morning in NW Harris County with frost all the way down to the grassy surfaces and car tops this morning. Our next weather maker locally is organizing along the West Coast and will bring a chance of showers and storms mid week mainly across the Eastern half of Texas before wrapping u...

Re: January 2016: Houston Marathon Weather
Looks like the chances of anything other than normal "cold" in the next 10 days is gone..no more chances of wintery precip in North Texas as was being predicted even a few days ago....quite the dud of a winter so far This is the case almost all of the time. Rarely does it pan out the way ...

Re: January 2016: Colder Temperatures / Light Freeze Possibl
The cold air is overperforming in CLL (not uncommon with shallow, dense layers), slipping toward 40°F and 30°s... and that tongue of polar air (≥Ice Bowl) is sliding through NE. Should be interesting to see if projected temps are downgraded in TX. I was just contemplating covering plants, but I gue...

Re: January 2016: Severe Weather Followed By Colder Temperat
We were at Hobby around 5:30 pm dropping off family. Not surprised by the reports. This cell was just plain nasty. Lots up draft, shear, evidence of cell rotation. One awesome wall cloud.
