Peaked at 89°F again. Big thunderhead over Columbus with clouds that stretch back over IAH and Humble now. A swing and a miss!

Re: JUNE 2016 - Typical Summertime WX/Watching the Tropics

Warm, but not hot, and breezy. NE winds, and possible fast moving showers moving through. Shrubs and grass are green. No complaints and would be delighted if the forecast could go "Groundhog Day" until Sept 1.

Re: JUNE 2016 - Typical Summertime WX/Watching the Tropics

Yeah, the weak frontal boundary is already south of Houston. 78 degrees at IAH at NOON in JUNE? That's ridiculous! Normal high for this time of year is 90, though IAH has YET to hit 90 this spring. I am not complaining about the temps at all. Was a lovely morning. I almost forgot it was June when I...

There doesn't seem to be much steering going on.
The Houston cluster is starting to weaken as daytime heating subsides. Things will fire up again tomorrow, hopefully with less focal intensity.

Re: JUNE 2016 - Heavy Rainfall/Flooding Possible Into Weeken

Just caught-up on the thread. I don't know if that's necessarily good news for us or now. A warm core system would tend to consolidate the rains near the core, or west of here. A cold-core convective system has the potential of setting-up training feeder bands off the Gulf. Pick your poison, either...

Re: JUNE 2016 - Heavy Rainfall/Flooding Possible Into Weeken

Definitely seeing some outflow convergence on the western side of the city, between the beltway and Katy. I think that is probably going to help the storms fill in around the metro area fairly soon. And that is even before the larger scale event starts. Thats just my amateur opinion though. As the ...

Re: JUNE 2016 - Heavy Rainfall/Flooding Possible Into Weeken

srainhoutx, that satellite photo looks suspiciously tropical. It's not, but it definitely raises the eyebrow. It's an ULL rather than surface low (and without an upper level ridge feeding it, but there appear to be some tropical characteristics of the air. Visually it has the appearance of tropical...

Re: JUNE 2016 - Heavy Rainfall/Flooding Possible Into Weeken

Unless I am reading it wrong I don't see any of the models showing anything that looks like a core rain event tonight. They are all showing a consistent spin with the rainfall but no concentration around the center. Is this a case of the models not having a full understanding of the situation yet? ...

Re: JUNE 2016 - Heavy Rainfall/Flooding Possible Into Weeken

Make no mistake, with the upper level low swirling to our west, this is just the first wave. The rain and moisture appear to be far more tropical than last week, which had a nasty late severe season disposition. Characteristic small droplets and breeze are here. Daytime heating should flare up the n...
